Assassin's Creed Origins is the 10th main game of the Series. Ubisoft went back to Ancient Egypt (specifically the Ptolemaic Period) in this Origins story of the assassin's. The landscape in lush and baron all in one and really gets you into the society of ancient Egypt. The Main Character "Bayek" is a Medjay Ranger who's core duties were to protect Egypt's people and the Pharos interests. Bayek is one of the last, if not thee last Medjay in this harsh landscape. In Origins Bayek and his wife Aya experience a major tragedy which sets the stage for this epic story line. You play as Bayek headed down a path of revenge and redemption for tragedy and past sins. In the 30+ hours of gameplay you head down your path of revenge to take out a secret order of men responsible for the upheaval to your life. These are your main assassination targets and the key elements to the games story line. Among the games main story line you have many side tasks which including helping the citizens of ancient Egypt. Origins did a fabulous job at making the side quests feel dynamic and stand alone in their own right.
Origins kept some of the best elements from previous games including the ability to move bodies and the whistling we missed so much in unity. One of the best new editions to the game is Bayek's Eagle Senu which replaced the standard eagle vision to give you a fully controllable sky line view of enemies which you can mark and scout in advance. Your able to mark points of interest from up to a couple hundred meters away as well, and it really saves time when your not sure which route you should take next. It can be great to lead you to your next objective you would have otherwise missed.
One of the slight down falls to Origins has got be the combat. Though harder then some previous games, the difficulty seems to have less to do with actual challenge and more to do with somewhat clumsy mechanics. I was not a fan of the group fight as the rolling, dodging, and parrying were a bit slow and I would frequently get tagged by a second enemy by the time the move with my first enemy was completed. This aspect of the game however was not a deal breaker, and I frequently choose stealth and deliberate attack methods over storming the gates and talking my chances with a group fight. One of the best aspect of the combat is the actual weapons themselves. One of the best additions to Origins is the fact that all weapons are able to be leveled up indefinitely instead of having a cap like in previous games. I frequently would fall in love with low level weapons and level them up and keep them with me on my journey throughout the game. All weapons could be leveled up for a fee or could be scrapped for money or resources.
Assassin's Creed Origins did a fabulous job of keeping the gameplay engaging and unique from previous games. In Origins they added the addition of the fighting pit, and chariot races. This is a side note from the games main story line but gave the player a break from the games main aspects. Along with these additions, travel was expanded to multiple modes of transportation which includes horseback, camel, boat, or your own personal chariot. The boats were one of my favorite travel choices in the game and Ubisoft made a great choice when adding a speed mode for the boat travel. One of the most convenient aspect of this boat travel when compared to games like Witcher 3 (where boats are far and few between) was that boating NPC's would frequently approach you while in water so you never had to go far when looking for a boat. This made things convenient and a great time saver when going long distances but avoiding fast travel, which is still an option.
All in all this Game in the series has really been a highlight and one of my favorites since A.C. Black Flag. Ubisoft gave this a game a grand feel that was somewhat missing in Unity and Syndicate and I'm glad they brought that feeling back. Origins has the epic feel a game like this should have and makes me remember why I originally loved the series. Bayek's story is memorable and the setting visually breath taking and keeps the player engaged from beginning to end. If you've left the series at some point I recommend that you come back for Origins and fall in love all over again. This is definitely the kind of game that can get binged played, but that's all right when there is so much incredible content. For all of these Reason I gave Origins a 9.5 and hope you get to play this amazing game for yourself.
